Illuminati means [enlightened] in Latin. It refers historically to the Bavarian Illuminati, a real secret group founded on May 1, 1776, by Adam Weishaupt to promote reason and stop state and church abuse. Today, it also means a popular myth about a hidden group ruling the world.
